Dental Crowns

Whether you have suffered extensive tooth decay or an injury, a damaged tooth does not mean you can't have a beautiful smile. Natural-looking porcelain dental crowns can restore your dental structure while maintaining a natural appearance. Find out how the team at The Cosmetic Dentistry Institute in Troy, MI, can improve your smile with dental crowns...

What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Dental Crowns?

Cosmetic and Restorative Improvement

We understand that sometimes it’s not enough for a dental restoration to serve a practical function. A procedure that restores the natural beauty of a smile can go a long way toward building a patient’s confidence and self-esteem. For this reason, we offer completely natural-looking dental crowns.

Durable and Natural Looking

Traditionally, dental crowns have been made of metal alloys such as gold and nickel. While these metals are strong and durable, they are often stick out against the rest of your teeth. Porcelain dental crowns, on the other hand, are both highly durable and look absolutely natural in your smile.

Highly Aesthetic

These materials mimic the appearance of dental enamel and can be custom-matched to the color of your natural teeth. Our expertise and cutting-edge technology can rebuild your smile. We can help you reclaim the beautiful appearance you deserve.

Effective Treatment for a Range of Problems

If you have suffered extensive dental decay or trauma, a custom dental crown can restore the balance, comfort, functionality, and appearance of your smile. To learn more about how you can benefit from a dental crown, please contact our office today.

Dental Crown Before and After Photos

Not convinced that a crown can improve your dental appearance? This patient had significant tooth wear on the front teeth and molars. We used a combination of porcelain veneers and dental crowns to fully restore the smile. Because crowns are stronger than veneers, we were able to use crowns to improve the health and appearance of the molars.

The staff and the dentists were amazing... My daughters tooth came out amazing. She needed a root canal and instead of an unsightly crown on her front tooth they were able to do an internal bleaching. For myself my tooth broke and they were able to fit me in and by the time I left I had my new crown. All new technology and I was thrilled.

What Is a Dental Crown?

Illustration of crown placed onto tooth
A dental crown, or cap, is a tooth-shaped prosthetic that can be placed over a tooth extensively damaged by trauma or decay. It can restore normal chewing function and the appearance of your smile. A crown can also be used to anchor a dental bridge or replace a missing tooth in conjunction with a dental implant.

What Is CEREC®?

CAD/CAM Technology

Computer monitor showing digital impression for dental crown

At the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute, our dentists utilize state-of-the-art CEREC technology to create custom ceramic dental crowns for results that look and feel entirely natural. CEREC, or Ceramic Reconstruction, is a revolutionary technique that uses 3-D digital modeling and CAD software to create fully customized dental crowns and veneers faster than ever before.

Same-Day Fabrication

CEREC machine milling crown

A digital scan of your teeth will guide a computerized milling machine in creating your custom cap from a single block of specially selected porcelain. CEREC technology allows our dentists to treat the teeth, and then create and place porcelain dental crowns within a single appointment. This prevents the need for temporary crowns and saves you time in the long run.

With our CEREC 3-D system, our dentists are able to precisely craft your porcelain crowns at our Troy practice in just one visit. It's this type of technology that saves time and avoids the need for temporary crowns.

The Crown Procedure
Step-by-step

Thanks to our use of advanced technology, the entire treatment process can be completed in a single appointment, without the need for a temporary crown.

Day of Procedure

Local Anesthetic

To ensure your comfort, our dentist will administer local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. For patients undergoing multiple treatments or full mouth reconstruction, we also offer IV sedation.

Prepare the Tooth

Prior to placing a crown, we will remove any signs of decayed or infected tooth structure. We will also remove some tooth structure from the perimeter of the tooth to make room for the crown.

Digital Impressions and Design

Next, we will take digital impressions of the tooth and design a crown that offers a precise fit, restores the tooth, and looks natural. We can tailor the shade, size, and shape of the crown to complement your unique features and look as natural as possible.

Fabrication

While you wait in our office, we will fabricate the crown out of a single block of high quality dental porcelain. Because we craft the crown on the same day, there is no need for a temporary crown or second treatment appointment.

Placing the Custom Crown

The final step is to secure the custom crown to your tooth using strong and durable dental resin. With proper care, the dental crown and resin can last 15 years or more.
