How Do Implant-Supported and Traditional Dentures Differ?

Your full-arch dental restoration can be permanently attached to dental implants inserted in your jaw, or it can be removable and rest on your gums.

Types of Dentures

For your convenience, both surgical and restorative procedures are performed here, at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute. We draw patients from Troy, Birmingham, and Bloomfield, MI.
Traditional, Removable Dentures

Traditional, Removable Dentures

Traditional, removable dentures are a simple and relatively fast choice to replace a full arch of teeth. Our dentists use advanced technology to achieve the glove fit patients desire. Using an i-CAT™ Cone Beam Scanner, the dentist will capture a 3-D image of your mouth. Then our lab meticulously creates a denture that fits securely over your alveolar ridge for greater confidence. For a natural effect, we color-match the plastic base to your gums.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-Supported Dentures

The implant-supported dentures we offer are the ultimate in form and function. Our dentists have advanced training in placing these small titanium posts and use the latest technology to precisely anchor them for lasting results. Once the implants fuse with the bone they provide a secure base for your denture and prevent jaw recession. You can also set aside any concern that your dentures will shift or fall out as they are fixed in place. For optimum durability and a lifelike look, we use some of the finest denture materials available so that each tooth looks beautiful.

Same-Day Dentures

At the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute, we want to restore your smile as soon as possible. Therefore, we provide same-day dentures in many cases.

Full-Mouth Extractions

If you are first going to undergo full-mouth extractions, we can often fit you with a removable denture that will allow you to feel self-confident as your gums heal. Keep in mind that your gums will change shape as they heal, and you will need to return to the office so we can fit your permanent prosthetic.

Implant Dentures

Often we can also provide same-day dentures for people who have opted for dental implants. Immediately after your implant surgery, your dentist will attach a full-mouth restoration. This restoration will be temporary, but stable. After your jaw has fully healed from surgery, you will receive your permanent denture.

Dental Implants Review

In this dental implants review, Kim says that after a lifetime of poor oral health, she was unhappy with the state of her smile. After developing a treatment plan with Dr. Goldin, Kim replaced both her upper and lower arches with dental implant-supported restorations. She can now speak and laugh with confidence.

Which Type of Full-arch Restoration Is Right for You?

Ultimately, the optimal restoration for a dental arch depends on three factors:

Jawbone Health

Unfortunately when a tooth is lost, the bone that held it erodes. If you've been missing teeth for a while, then you may lack the bone density needed to support dental implants. Fortunately, undergoing a bone graft treatment may make you eligible.

Overall Health

If you have a chronic condition that may compromise healing, elective implant surgery may not be appropriate.

Your Budget

A traditional denture will cost less than an implant-supported restoration. Nevertheless, many patients find dental implants to be a worthwhile investment in their health, appearance, and quality of life.

Implant Bridges

For patients suffering from tooth loss, dental implants offer unparalleled stability for a life-like restoration. Our dentists can provide full-arch implant bridges in a single office visit. Enjoy life again with a beautiful smile thanks to dental implants!
