Implant-Supported Bridges

If you are missing two or more consecutive teeth, you may be wondering what is the best way to restore your smile. Implant-supported bridges are unmatched for delivering stability, beauty, and long-term oral health benefits. Learn what makes implant-supported bridges from the award-winning dentists at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute in Troy, MI, special...

What Are Implant-Supported Bridges?

Implant-supported bridges are similar to traditional bridges in that both use a row of artificial teeth to fill the gap left in your smile. But instead of being held in place by dental crowns attached to nearby natural teeth, an implant-supported bridge is supported by small titanium posts embedded in the jaw. Once dental implants fuse with the bone, implants act just like tooth roots to keep bridges, dentures, and crowns firmly in place at all times.

Dr. Craig Goldin, Dr. Marcy Goldin, and Dr. David Whalen at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute in Troy, MI, use the latest in dental technology and quality restorative materials to create durable, natural-looking bridges that blend into your smile for natural-looking results. How Implant-Supported Bridges Work

Implant bridges are secured to the jaw using dental implants, which replace lost tooth roots. This provides excellent stability and jawbone retention.

What Makes Implant-Supported Bridges Special?

People suffering tooth loss have a number of options, including traditional bridges, partial dentures, and implant-supported bridges. Dr. Craig Goldin, a Diplomate of the prestigious International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), wants you to know that there are many advantages provided by implant-supported bridges:

A Conservative Choice

Dentists like to avoid traditional bridges because they require altering healthy teeth to support the dental bridge. In contrast, implant-supported bridges are held in place with dental implants. We use an i-CAT™ cone beam scanner to determine the best position for implants.

Improved Bone Health

Dental implants function like tooth roots and stimulate the jawbone, encouraging regenerative bone growth that keeps the jaw strong. Without stimulation, the bone surrounding a missing tooth root will recede and allow other teeth to shift out of place.

Greater Stability

Removable partial dentures have flaws similar to traditional dentures. They can shift out of place, limiting what you eat and potentially causing you embarrassment when dining out or talking. In contrast, implant-supported bridges are held securely in place because the dental implant fuses with the jawbone.

Durability

With proper care, implants can provide decades of support for your dental bridge. While the bridge itself will need to be eventually replaced, your implants might last the rest of your life.

Treatment Timeline For Implant-Supported Bridges

We do whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable, pampered, and cared for.
We do whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable, pampered, and cared for.

Consultation

We will assess your jawbone density and other factors to determine if an implant-supported solution is right for you. If it is, we'll create a custom treatment plan.

Preparatory Procedures

Some patients may need preparatory care, such as treatment for gum disease or a bone graft, before implant bridge treatment begins.

Implant Surgery

The treatment area will be numbed. If needed, we can provide sedation dentistry for increased relaxation. Then, small incisions will be made in your gums and the implants will be inserted.

Healing

It typically takes three to six months for bone to fuse with the implants, a process called osseointegration. Once secure, a connector piece called an abutment will be attached followed by a short two-week period of healing.

Impressions

We'll create a precise digital impression of your mouth to guide the creation of the bridge.

Bridge Placement

When your bridge is ready, we'll check that it fits comfortably and that you are satisfied with the results before attaching it.
